Tyco Electronics Introduces The First Long Reach Cable Assembly Certified By VESA
Tyco Electronics (TE) has introduced a long-reach, passive cable assembly that complies with the DisplayPort version 1.1a Reduced Bit Rate (RBR) specification. This assembly is the first of its kind to be certified by VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association), a certification program that enables consumers to easily identify cable adaptor products that have been tested and certified for proper operation via the DisplayPort Certified Logo on adaptor product packaging.
The By meeting the DisplayPort RBR compliance specifications, this long-reach cable assembly enables the transmission of multimedia content from a source device, such as a graphic accelerator in a PC, in High-Definition (HD) format, to a sink device such as a projector or LCD TV, located as far as 15 meters away. The cable assembly is available in two lengths: 10 meters and 15 meters.
DisplayPort Version 1.1a specification defines the next generation video/audio interface form factor and video/audio content transmission in variable data rate: High Bit Rate (’HBR’) at 10.8Gbps and RBR at 6.48Gbps. HBR is mainly used in short-reach video/audio interconnect applications (a desktop PC to a stand alone LCD) whereas RBR is mainly used for long-reach video/audio interconnect applications (notebook PC to a projector). Both applications use the same interface as well as signaling.
