TE celebrates 7 trillion PLASTI-GRIP terminals and splices
TE Connectivity has announced the seven trillionth (7,000,000,000,000) shipment of PLASTI-GRIP terminals since the inception of the company. TE can trace its experience in the development of solderless terminals and crimp technology back to 1948, when Uncas A. Whitaker, the founder of AMP (Aero-Marine Products) invented PLASTI-GRIP – one of the first ever insulated solderless terminals.
Since these early days, PLASTI-GRIP has become an industry standard RBY (Red, Blue, Yellow – the standard insulation colours for solderless terminals. Each colour represents a wire size.) terminal for commercial applications.
PLASTI-GRIP can be found in everything from panel boxes, switchgear, and power supplies, to lighting, transportation, and HVAC systems as well as many more applications.
“To reach the 7 trillion milestone is an amazing achievement for our PLASTI-GRIP products,” said Callum Luff, product manager. “The fact that these terminals and splices have stood the test of time in a wide variety of applications shows the staying power of the product. Our customers know PLASTI-GRIP products are high quality, easy to use and reliable.”
TE’s PLASTI-GRIP terminals are designed with fast and simple installation in mind. The funneled wire entry on each PLASTI-GRIP terminal permits rapid wire insertion during high speed production, and all terminals crimp easily with TE-designed application tooling. Together this provides a long-lasting connection of maximum conductivity and tensile strength.
PLASTI-GRIP terminals are available in ring, spade and flanged tongue terminals, as well as parallel and butt splices in wire sizes ranging from 26AWG to 2/0AWG (0.12 – 76mm2). PLASTI-GRIP is UL listed and CSA certified, and has a maximum operating voltage of 600V and a maximum operating temperature up to 105ºC.
