DSEI 2015: High speed connector enables minimal RF noise
A rugged high speed connector has been added to its D-Sub Series by Smiths Connectors. This line of high-impedance connectors is offered with 150ohm Quadrax contacts. It has been designed to ground the outer shield Quadrax directly to the shell of the connector, providing minimal RF noise, a compelling differentiator amongst D-Sub products.
The new connector provides high durability of up to 1,000 mating cycles in addition to the multiple point contact engagement that delivers vastly superior EMI shielding.
To ensure that the high-speed connectors are correctly mated to address specific wiring requirements and keying functions, a keyed jack post option has been incorporated into the design.
The six-positioned post allows for 36 possible keying combinations assuring that the correct Fibre Channel D-Sub plug is mated to the correct high-speed receptacle. Non-keyed jack post versions are alsoavailable.
The Fibre Channel D-Sub connector features standard non-keyed insert arrangements with 2, 4, 6, 8 way and hybrid options are offered as well. It supports data rates up to 6.25Gbps and has common back shells with a broad range of accessories, guide hardware and sealing grommets, as well as integrated EMI spring fingers that offer unmatched EMI performance with low contact resistance.
The connector offers ease of assembly and a robust, comprehensive training package is provided to assist design engineers.
“Smaller footprints, higher density and higher speed are critical across all segments of the global marketplace,” states Gabriel Guglielmi, Vice President of Business Development and Strategy for Smiths Connectors. “Our D-Sub offering is designed to be rugged, versatile and with the functionality that is required to address the ever-changing needs of our global customers.”
