Productivity Gain In Power Tool Magnet Wire Termination -- Mag-Mate IDC Poke-In Terminal Allows Vibration-Resistant Contacts
TE Connectivity offers its MAG-MATE poke-in terminal to power tool manufacturers that wish to speed up magnet wire termination as part of their production process. The highly successful MAG-MATE product range applies fast Insulation Displacement Connection (IDC) technology to the termination of magnet wire. In contrast to more time-consuming processes, such as soldering or welding, MAG-MATE wire termination results in a repeatedly accurate, gas-tight interconnection of the highest reliability. Therefore a leading international power tool manufacturer has recently made the switch to standard MAG-MATE poke-in terminals.
MAG-MATE poke-in terminals offer yet another advantage to power tool applications because space constraints can be addressed during the design-in of the plastic cavity. TE Connectivity engineering offers global design-in support, welcoming diverse business models, ranging from full design-in at TE Connectivity to the mere provision of CAD models for use at the customer’s lab.
The UL approved poke-in terminal is available in two sizes (types B and D) covering between them a wide range of copper wire gauges from 0.36 to 1.83 millimeters (AWG 27 – 13).
Recent studies at TE Connectivity have shown that standard MAG-MATE interconnection products will work very well with aluminum magnet wire, if the insertion depth of the terminal is specified for the light weight material’s properties. As a consequence the switch to poke-in terminal technology is future-proof even if the power tool manufacturer considers using aluminum magnet wire instead of copper.
