A Universal GPS contact which enables greatly improved transmission of high-frequency signals in mobile phones, PDAs, GPS systems and other mobile devices has been developed by leading hi-rel connector company ITT Interconnect Solutions. The proliferation of GPS features within hand-held devices has brought many technical challenges, including the need to transmit and receive high-frequency signals of above 1.8GHz between antenna and circuit board within the device with no distortion of signal wave or length.
ITT ICS’s new Universal GPS contact is a 1.8mm dry circuit pressure contact, which when mated and deflected, maintains true contact beam positioning with no conductivity to the side walls, maintaining signal length and wave integrity. Importantly, contact mating force is 0.3N, with 0.1mm of beam movement.

This low-cost, robust contact allows complete freedom of board positioning and features a domed contact mating point and side wings. It is a single piece stamped and formed BeCu contact, with a deflection of 0.9mm and free height of 1.8mm. Its X-Y-Z movement facilitates robust antenna connection.
