Miniature connector suitable for industrial Ethernet
At ENOVA Paris which took place 19th to 21st September 2017, Electronic Specifier met with Hirose Electric Europe. The Japanese connector company were excited to present its new products for the first time in France, and we got the chance to interview John de Graaf (pictured), Hirose’s Deputy General Manager for Sales and Marketing. At the show, Hirose presented its ix Industrial connector which features a small and robust design for use in industrial environments.
With the Industry 4.0 trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies, Ethernet communication between electronic equipment has increased. This increase brings efficiency of manufacturing with information and communications technology.
The high speed transmission design contributes to equipment evolution and smart manufacturing applications. The standard interface is compliant with IEC/PAS 61076-3-124 and it can be widely used as a next-gen standard connector.
Compared to conventional RJ-45 modular solutions, the ix Industrial offers 70% less installation space. This makes it possible to significantly reduce the size of the full spectrum of device types.
The receptacles allow for a parallel 10mm pitch mounting for daisy-chaining in compact units contributing to size reduction of end use products.
The ix Industrial connector is suitable for a range of applications including security systems, transportation, data centres, robotics, communications and factory automation.
John de Graaf explained that Hirose was at the forefront of the Micro USB revolution. In a similar way, Hirose hope that ix Industrial will eventually replace the RJ-45 solutions in use today to become a truly universal connector.
De Graaf also mentioned that ix Industrial will be distributed by HARTING, its technology partner. Hirose profited from ENOVA Paris to get closer to its French customers and better understand their needs.
