Nicomatic will give a UK debut to a number of new developments in its ranges of miniature and rectangular connectors at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition, Excel, London, S2 317 10th to 13th September 2019. Lightweight and secure, new one millimetre AMM series connectors suit demanding space-constrained applications in harsh environments.

Capable of carrying up to 4.8A (PCB to cable, 20 pins at 25°C) or 2.5A (PCB to PCB, 20 pins at 25°C), the miniature connectors can withstand vibrations of 15G and shock of 100G. Devices can handle up to 1,000 mating cycles and can operate between -65 and 200°C. Five standard layouts with six, ten, 20, 34, 50 contacts distributed over two rows are stocked in depth for immediate shipment, and a guidance pin in integrated into the design for stacking.

Also new is Optimus, an EN4165-compliant, modular, rectangular I/O connector series. This low-profile interconnect solution is user-configurable and is applicable either to provide an equipment interface connection to a harness or as a robust rack & panel solution. Optimus connectors are highly versatile. Modular construction enables designers to specify the layout they need. Connectors can be configured with size 22 signal contacts rated at 5A or size 8 power contacts rated for 60A. 90° PCB mount versions are also available. Devices are waterproof and offer EMI protection.

Nicomatic will also feature other miniature connector ranges including the 1.27 mm pitch EMM series, which targets defence and other high-reliability applications. Designed to meet the performance requirements of MIL 83513, EMM series connectors occupy 40% less space than previous-generation connectors from the company, are 20% smaller than Micro D connectors for 16-pin configurations and are around ten percent smaller in footprint that the closest industry competitor.

Also of note, DLMM connectors use a metallised composite shell, reducing the weight of these Micro-D MIL 83513 type connectors by approximately 50%. Superior EMI protection is afforded also due to the metallisation, and a monoblock backshell can be specified for even greater shielding and robustness on cable connections.

Devices can incorporate mixed signal, power and coax on two rows from four to 32 pins. Prototypes are available on three weeks for five shell sizes (10, 16, 22, 26 and 32 pins).
