Molex introduces its MediSpec High-Density Micro-Ribbon Cables, which replace individual primary wires and flexible circuits with ribbonised parallel wires bonded together using fluoropolymer technology into an organised, dense package for ease-of-routing and electrical length matching.
Developed at the Molex Temp-Flex facility, the innovative technology ensures each wire is the same length on a tightly controlled pitch to deliver precise electrical performance. The cables are ideal for invasive and implantable medical applications such as catheters, video arthroscopy, glucose monitoring, implantable therapeutics, pain management and minimally invasive imaging such as ultrasound and endoscopy.

“The MediSpec High-Density Micro-Ribbon Cables are the perfect example of our goal to provide high-performance medical solutions that are both customisable and affordable,” said Anthony Kalaijakis, medical strategic marketing manager, Molex. “Because the cables are bonded together in long lengths and available on continuous spools they are not limited by standard manufacturing capabilities and are the ideal, cost-effective alternative to flexible circuits.”

The compact sized Temp-Flex MediSpec High-Density Micro-Ribbon Cables feature a small pitch (76 μm), tight tolerance (13 μm) and a variety of wire gauges (36-50 AWG), which enable multiple, high-density signal channels (up to 13 signals per mm or 169 signals/mm2). Molex uses biocompatible materials to ensure the cables are safe for implantable and invasive medical applications. The conductors are available in several materials including silver-plated copper, MP35N, precious metals and stainless steel to support a high level of customisation.
