Mindspeed introduces cable equalizer M21544 with industry’s longest reach and lowest output jitter
Mindspeed today unveiled an adaptive equalizer with the longest reach and lowest output jitter for serial digital interface applications. The company will be demonstrating the M21544 equalizer at the IBC2012 exhibition.
The The M21544 also features an integrated jitter cleaner that enables it to deliver the lowest output jitter in the industry – less than 0.20 unit intervals (UI) after compensating for 200m of cable at 2.97Gbps. This advancement eliminates the need for stand-alone reclockers at the input of a system, reducing power consumption, complexity and system cost. It also provides additional high-frequency jitter margin, which can be used for intra-system routing and distribution. For applications where it is not required, the optional jitter cleaner can be powered down for even greater power efficiency.
This equalizer offers the performance, flexibility and power consumption equipment vendors demand for their next generation broadcast video system designs,” said Hasnain Bajwa, senior vice president and general manager, high-performance analog (HPA), at Mindspeed. “Our new equalizer’s capability to extend reach and provide extra system jitter margin will enable broadcasters to maximize utilization of their existing coax based infrastructure.”
Technical Details
The M21544 is the dual output version of the equalizer, while a single output version, the M21564, is also available. The M21544 is housed in an industry-standard 4x4 mm2 24-pin quad-flat no-leads (QFN) package, and the M21564 in a 4x4 mm2 16-pin QFN package. Each differential output features programmable swing as well as de-emphasis, enabling signals to be transmitted across 40 inches of trace. Each equalizer operates using a single 2.5 V supply voltage and features advanced diagnostics capabilities including cable length indication, loss of signal detection and offers power management capabilities.
