Hybrid connectors are flexible & backwards compatible
Claimed to provide more flexibility than traditional power connectors, the Minitek Pwr Hybrid 3.0 and 4.2 connectors have been released by FCI. Alongside dual row power circuits, the 3.0 and 4.2 configurations are available for 2-24 power circuits and 2-12 signal circuits for wire-to-board applications. Crimping and removal tools are provided for wire harness assemblies, while vertical wave soldering headers are offered in through-hole configurations.
The Minitek Pwr Hybrid 3.0 and 4.2mm allow the flexibility of selecting the number of pins, and the placement of power and signal contacts, making them suitable for a variety of power requirements. If the signal pin is taken out of the design, the devices are backwards mateable with traditional 3.0 and 4.2mm power connectors. Enhancing current rating capability, the signal pin design in the centre of the connectors allows for better heat dissipation.
The Minitek Pwr Hybrid 3.0, designed for power applications with current ratings of up to 5A per contact, features crimp and snap-in receptacles which terminate AWG 20 to 30 wires. Designed for high-current and high-density applications, the Minitek Pwr Hybrid 4.2 supports up to 9A per contact and features crimp and snap-in receptacles which terminate 16 to 30AWG wires.
To prevent potential damage during operation, the connectors feature fully isolated terminals. Scoop-proof housings ensure terminals are not compromised during angled mating, while a high retention force secures terminals in their housings. The Minitek Pwr Hybrid 3.0 and 4.2 connectors are suitable for consumer, industrial and instrumentation, data and communications applications.
“The Minitek Pwr Hybrid series offers customers the choice of various signal and power configuration to control various wattage of power supply. The design helps save space and investment as it is a flexible backward compatible solution. These connectors are an alternative to wire-to-board interconnectors,” commented Fabrizio Stango, Director for Commercial Portfolio, FCI.
