Hirose introduces its smallest one-action FPC connector yet
Hirose has expanded its line of one-action flexible printed circuit (FPC) connectors with the release of the FH82 Series, the company’s most compact version to date.
With a pitch of 0.25 mm, a height of just 0.65 mm, and a thickness of 0.2 mm, the FH82 Series connector is designed to meet the growing demand for space-saving solutions in automotive, consumer electronics, medical devices, smart home technology, wearables, and other applications where size constraints are critical. The FH82 Series is particularly well-suited for connecting displays and sensors in such devices.
The key feature of the FH82 Series lies in its patented one-action connection mechanism, allowing the FPC to be inserted without the need to touch the actuator. This design minimises the risk of actuator damage while significantly speeding up assembly, reducing work steps and time to just a third of what is typically required, thereby boosting production efficiency.
Engineered for automated assembly, the connector features a large taper at the opening for smooth insertion. Its unique spring design combines low-insertion force with high-retention force, facilitating easy use by both human operators and robotic systems.
The FH82 Series is built with a rugged single-action lock that ensures high reliability, even in devices exposed to frequent shock and vibration. Unlike backflip connectors that can be damaged during shipping if the actuator is left open, Hirose’s one-action FH connectors are shipped with the actuator closed, offering additional protection.
“Traditionally, connecting an FPC involves opening the actuator, inserting the FPC, and then closing the actuator. With our One Action FH connectors, all that’s needed is to insert the FPC—no actuator handling required,” said Pete Lais, Assistant Vice President of Product Management for Hirose Electric Americas. “This single-action lock design not only prevents latch damage during assembly but also streamlines the process, greatly improving efficiency.”
The FH82 Series is currently available in a 14-position configuration, with additional features including halogen-free and RoHS compliance. Hirose’s broader One Action FH connector family includes versions with heights ranging from 0.9 mm to 5.2 mm, along with shielded options for high-speed data applications.
