USB 2.0 still dominates, but SuperSpeed USB sees increased demand

Since its release in 1996, the Universal Serial Bus connector has become the de facto standard connector for many product applications, from PCs and peripherals to consumer electronics and mobile platforms. Often referred to as SuperSpeed USB, USB 3.0 technology offers an increase in data speeds of ten-times compared to the previous USB 2.0 specification.
USB 3.0 also offers increased power output and efficiency, enabling support for increasingly power-hungry modern devices and increasing the battery life of portable devices. This increase in its performance allows it to meet the requirements of the next generation products/technologies.

“USB 2.0 is still currently the dominant technology, but we are seeing a steady increase in the demand for USB 3.0 technology as more equipment manufacturers launch devices that utilise USB 3.0 technology and consumers want to operate these devices at their maximum speed, commented Tom Hennessey, business manager for cable assemblies. We can supply cables to specific lengths and include company logos and colours as required.”

GTK offers a comprehensive range of USB 3.0 cable assemblies, including blue overmoulded cable assemblies available in a variety of configurations (A to A, A to B and A to Micro B styles). GTK's SuperSpeed USB cable assemblies enable data transfer speeds of up to 4.8Gbps and are PC and MAC compatible. GTK is also able to incorporate the USB 3.0 technology into its custom cable assemblies, as well as these standard assemblies, offering different connector ends and inter-series assemblies.
