Full selection of circular connectors on display at EDS 2018
binder UK will be showcasing examples from its comprehensive range of circular connectors including its HEC (Harsh Environment Connector) industrial connectors at EDS 2018 – October 17 & 18 at The Ricoh Arena, Coventry. binder UK can be found on stand M12.
The increasing use of electronics technology throughout those industry sectors that operate in the harshest of environments – agriculture, construction, process engineering plants etc - has placed significant demands on companies who manufacture the interconnection systems that provide the basis for power, control and communications. To meet the need for a tough connector system, binder has developed its HEC product family.
Connectors for harsh environments
binder’s Series 696, HEC connectors are UL approved connectors with excellent resistance to UV, temperature fluctuations, acid rain, salt spray, ozone and other pollutants.
The connector’s design features a secure, three-point fast locking mechanism with a robust coding system that prevents incorrect orientation. The use of crimp contacts makes for vibration-proof terminations.
The binder Series 696 HEC connectors are manufactured from a tough UL 94V-0 rated polyamide and are waterproof and dustproof to IP68/IP69k which means they can withstand the levels of harsh treatment found in applications like agriculture and construction where the use of high-pressure washing is commonplace. Other applications include traffic and signalling systems, process engineering plants, water purification facilities and recycling equipment.
Several contact arrangements are available including an 8-pole hybrid with four signal contacts and 3+PE which can accommodate a variety of wire sizes. Signal contacts are rated up to 3A and 60V and power contacts to 25A and 400V
The latest addition to the HEC Series is a power connector capable of handling up to 32A at a rated voltage of 600V. The power connector is available in both cable and panel mount formats with 4+PE silver plated male or female contacts. According to binder, the connectors are good for more than 1000 mating cycles. Other additions that further increase the applications for these connectors include a female panel mount connector with a hinged cover that protects up to IPX9K/IP68 when unmated, a protective conduit fitting and a version designed to seal single wires against humidity.
A recent addition to binder’s RD24 UL approved Series 692/693 connectors is a version that incorporates a “Vario” cable outlet designed to accommodate cables with diameters from 7 to 17mm.
According to binder UK Managing Director, David Phillips, users would previously have needed three different connector sizes to handle this range of cable diameters. The design features an onion ring seal which has multiple, separable seals which, when separated, fits various cable diameters.
TheRD24 connectors suit a wide variety of applications including power connections for pressure and temperature transducers, welding equipment, CCTV, security installations and control systems.
Two specifications are available – 4 pole (16A, 400V) and 7 pole (10A, 250V) – both of which have a pre-engaging earth contact. binder is offering male and female versions for in-line mating or connection to standard panel-mount receptacles.
Manufactured from durable PBT with silver plated brass and bronze pins and contacts respectively, the new RD24 connectors are protected to IP67 when mated and locked. Options are available for screw, crimp and solder termination and contact resistance is ≤5mΩ.
binder has designed these RD24 connectors to operate across a wide temperature range and more than 500 mating cycles.
binder is a family-owned company with a turnover in excess of €200m employing 1500 people worldwide, is a technology and market leader in the field of industrial circular connectors supplying a wide range of high quality products ideal for all types of industrial applications.
