Assemblies & harnesses for optical cabling are customisable
Designed for optical cabling in medical electronic applications such as diagnostic imaging, optical sensors or data and galvanic isolation purpose such as X-ray machines and dental equipment, the fully customisable Plastic Optical Fibre (POF) and Hard Polymer Clad Fibre (HPCF) assemblies and harnesses have been released by Molex.
Short-to-medium distance data communications are accommodated by the Molex Polymicro 200/230 PolyClad Optical Fibre, which withstands the harsh conditions that can be found in clinic and hospital settings, including exposure to fluids, chemicals and radiation. To help users identify the assemblies and harnesses needed, the company are offering a configurator tool with the assemblies and harnesses.
Molex POF cable assemblies and harnesses withstand harsh environments in temperatures ranging from -55 to +105°C. Through cost-effective component selection, a choice of polymer and metal connectors, from a wide range of manufacturers, offer outstanding insertion loss performance. To simplify connection in the field, the components have colour-coded cable jackets. The assemblies and harnesses also have bare-fibre assembly capabilities, making them suitable for sensor applications.
“Medical device designers are able to specify POF assemblies and harnesses in terms of connector types, jacket material and colour, temperature range, UL certification, cable lengths and tolerances, numerical aperture and fibre size,” said Mickaël Marie, European Business Manager, Molex. “Cable assemblies and harnesses terminated by Molex SMI connectors, plus a wide range of connectors from different manufacturers, are also available to answer specific application requirements at a cost-competitive price.”
“Optimised at 650 and 850nm with typical attenuation of less than 10 and 6dB/km, respectively, our Molex PolyClad 200µm hard polymer clad fibre features a tensile strength of well over the industry standard of 150kpsi and minimal bend radius for high reliability. The 200/230 PolyClad fibre delivers superior performance coupled with resistance to harsh temperatures, chemicals and radiation that will prevent fibre degradation and shorten product life,” commented Imke Kuester, Business Development Manager, Molex.
“Purchasing fully-customised cable or harness solutions allows customers to simplify their supply-chain through vendor reduction and by removing third-party costs,” adds Marie.
The POF & PolyClad assemblies and harnesses are UL and LSZH cable certified to meet global safety standards.
