ALPS Offers SD Card Adapter for microSD Cards

Mobile phones, digital cameras and other peripheral devices are becoming more compact and thinner. In line with this trend, ever smaller memory cards are being employed now. With the SCHH series, ALPS ELECTRIC EUROPE GmbH offers memory card adapters for microSD™ cards for use in devices with SD card slot. The robust, torsion-resistant adapters have external dimensions of 32mm x 24mm x 2.1mm (W x D x H) and guarantee for an operating life of 10,000 insertion/removal cycles. They are user-friendly and easy to handle as the memory card can be inserted and removed manually. An implemented locking mechanism effectively prevents unintentional ejection of cards. In addition, the adapters are remarkable for their reliable, corrosion resistant spring contacts for connecting the memory card.

Further technical specifications are a maximum initial contact resistance of 100mΩ at the connector contacts, an insulation resistance of up to 1,000MΩ and a voltage proof of 500VAC per minute. The operating temperature ranges between –25°C and +85°C. The SCHH series complies with the RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) directive and is available in minimum packaging units of 780 pieces.

These features make use of technologies ALPS has cultivated during several years for the thin-walled mold processing, simulation engineering techniques etc. Simulation engineering in particular provided a fluidity analysis of the compound resin, which enabled ALPS to define a resin that provides the optimum part structure and twist-resistance and to determine the optimum pressure for reliable contact with the terminals. Accelerated development is being promoted to improve the efficiency of the design.
