AFL is introducing a new family of Low-Smoke Zero Halogen Premise Distribution Cables (LSZH). LSZH distribution cable is constructed utilizing the superior design and engineering standards that are hallmarks of AFL’s optical cable portfolio.
“For work spaces with strict environmental or safety regulations or where ventilation is a concern, AFL’s LSZH cable provides a solution that supports both compliance to strict NFPA 70 guidelines as well as greatly reduces potentially toxic emissions when subjected to high heat or flame conditions,” stated Doug Baker, commercial manager for enterprise cable at AFL.

The LSZH cable design complies with both domestic and international safety regulations. LSZH cable performance is qualified to UL 1666 and UL 1685 standards for OFNR-LS criteria and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards: 60332, 60754 and 61034. Additionally, the cable design is based on 900 µm tight buffer constructions, which provide the performance and ease of handling needed to meet network installation demands. The cable design supports either direct or indirect termination schemes and are accessible to fiber management systems.

The LSZH cable construction supports the application of multimode fiber including 50 µm OM4 as well as single-mode solutions and both fiber configurations are available in bend insensitive designs. LSZH cable is ideal for routing between communications closets and equipment rooms, data center trunk cabling, LAN distribution and intra-building backbones, environments requiring zero-halogen safety features and pre-terminated optical assemblies.
