Building Information Models launched for electrical enclosures
Leading the way in the digitisation of the construction industry management, electrical enclosure manufacturer Spelsberg, is introducing Building Information Modelling (BIM) models for many of its product ranges. Models are already available for Spelsberg’s standard enclosures, IBT (integrated building technologies) range of products, distribution boxes and WKE fire resistant enclosures, with more scheduled for introduction in the future.
Building Information Modelling is a computer-based procedure that allows managers in the construction industry to create, organise and share all relevant project information, including design specifications, technical details of products used, construction schedules, costing etc. The BIM process starts at the design stage of the project and continues all the way through to final handover of the finished building to the client.
Building Information Modelling is used throughout the construction period and allows all involved, from architects and designers to project managers, procurement official, site managers and clerks of work, to share accurate information that is always kept up to date. One of the most important elements of BIM is the final model, a digital description of every aspect of the resultant building, including details of every product used, its location, function and life expectancy. This is shared with the client and, where appropriate, the tenants who can use it for maintenance, service and subsequent building works such as extension and remodelling.
While BIM is still a relatively new concept it will be taken up relatively quickly by all parts of the construction industry, including SME and sole trader builders. The UK Government is implementing a long term strategy for construction, in that it is targeting lower costs, faster delivery, safer procedures and lower emissions. This will improve productivity in domestic construction and also make UK architects and construction companies more competitive on international markets.
Spelsberg’s BIM models can be freely downloaded here. They can be used by electrical engineers, architects, building services engineers, installers, maintenance personnel etc. and will integrate seamlessly into BIM models, CAD drawings, design files, etc.
Their development and introduction is part of Spelsberg’s constant drive to take customer service to the next level and one of a long line of innovations that includes customisation services, installation support, large stock profile and next day deliveries. As BIM becomes more and more commonplace in the construction industry Spelsberg will be making sure all of its standard products’ specifications and technical details are available in a downloadable, easy to integrate format.
