SolidRun, a developer and manufacturer of System on Module (SOM) solutions, Single Board Computers (SBC), and network edge devices, has launched the HummingBoard i.MX8M IIOT SBC. This robust and customisable board is designed to support the complex requirements of Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications.

Integrating SolidRun's i.MX8M Plus System on Module (SOM) with NXP's i.MX 8M Plus SoC, the HummingBoard i.MX8M IIOT SBC offers extensive I/O and connectivity options on a flexible carrier board, aimed at advancing industrial environments. Its focus is on reliability and functionality within IIOT and HMI installations.

Meeting industrial demands with resilience and connectivity

The HummingBoard i.MX8M IIOT SBC is engineered for demanding industrial applications, delivering resilience, expandability, and connectivity in a compact design. Built to withstand challenging conditions, it operates within a temperature range of –40 to 85°C, making it ideal for a variety of industrial settings.

Power and versatility for IIOT applications

With support for multiple industrial protocols, including RS232, RS485, dual CAN-FD, and dual 1Gb Ethernet, the HummingBoard i.MX8M IIOT SBC integrates seamlessly into complex IIOT networks. It also offers versatile power options, including a wide input range and Power over Ethernet (PoE), enabling it to meet various industrial needs. This makes it suitable for applications such as factory automation and smart energy management, where real-time data from numerous sensors can be collected and processed across a facility.

Extensive connectivity and real-time HMI monitoring

With robust graphics capabilities and support for multiple peripherals, the HummingBoard i.MX8M IIOT SBC is ideal for HMI applications in industrial settings, enabling interactive interfaces for monitoring and controlling equipment. The i.MX 8M Plus Quad-core A53 processor (up to 1.8GHz) and multiple M.2 expansion options allow the board to handle complex HMI tasks. In logistics, for example, it can power interactive dashboards, providing real-time inventory tracking and equipment performance data, while LTE connectivity ensures consistent cloud access, even in remote or large facilities.

Scalability and customisation options

Designed for scalability, the HummingBoard i.MX8M IIOT SBC supports multiple M.2 cards for LTE (with dual SIM support), AI accelerators, and NVMe storage. With a projected 10-year lifecycle, it offers a cost-effective, sustainable solution for IIOT ecosystems that require long-term performance. It also includes extensive customisation options, such as support for Yocto and Debian BSP, and drivers for TPM 2.0, RTC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, and a range of interfaces, facilitating ease of development and reducing time-to-market.
