Self-powered sensor kit dispenses with batteries, cables
A self-powered sensor kit that enables designers and enthusiasts to get up and running with home and building automation is available from element14. The EnOcean Sensor Kit requires no cables or batteries and can be used with the EnOcean Pi for a wide variety of applications including switching lights, controlling blinds as well as acquiring wireless sensor information like temperature and window/door status detection.
The self-powered wireless sensors and a switch, ideal for home automation applications, can directly communicate with an intelligent smart home server via the EnOcean standardized ultra-low power radio protocol. This offers a reliable wireless communication with a range of up to 30 meters in buildings.
Featuring a set of three wireless sensors; push button, magnet contact switch & temperature sensor, the kit can be used in home automation applications that require remote sensing and remote control via tablets or smart phones. For example, the Raspberry Pi is an ideal platform to setup a smart home server where the EnOcean Pi acts as a bridge (Gateway-Controller) to the EnOcean switches and sensors providing data and status information.
Features include Sub 1 GHz frequencies for worldwide use: 902MHz, 868MHz & 315MHz and EnOcean radio standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-10.
No cables or batteries are required. The kit offers a solar-powered temperature sensor and a solar-powered magnet contact. It is compatible with more than 1,200 products of the EnOcean eco-system.
David Shen, CTO at element14, said: “The EnOcean Sensor Kit combines state of the art energy harvesting with ultra-low power sensors to create a unique automation solution for use with the Raspberry Pi. This kit is an exciting addition to our portfolio of IoT enablement kits and solutions.”
