The Kontron SMARC Evaluation Carrier 2.0 has been developed for ultra-low power Computer-on-Modules (COMs). It was launched at Embedded World in Nuremberg. Facilitating the development of embedded applications based on the SMARC 2.0 platform, it gives users a head start in their system design and flexibility to create individual solutions.

The SMARC Evaluation Carrier is based on the current SMARC Design Guide version 2.0, which was developed under significant involvement of Kontron and only recently introduced by the Standardization Group for Embedded Technologies (SGET).

The SMARC Evaluation Carrier is the ideal foundation for developing current SMARC-sXAL and future SMARC modules.

It comes with an extremely high number of ports: two Gigabit Ethernet ports that enable operation in network and IoT applications; one SD card slot; one mSATA interface; two USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports each, two miniPCIe ports with SIM card support, and two more PCIe ports.

The carrier board also offers all ports and interfaces needed for modules based on ARM and x86: three graphic interfaces (Dual Channel LVDS, HDMI, and DP++), I2S audio for ARM-based modules and HDA audio for x86-based modules, as well as two additional MIPI CSI camera interfaces for optimal multimedia application evaluation.

"With the new SMARC Evaluation Carrier 2.0, developers only have to choose the SMARC module that fits the desired application requirements best, quickly set it up, and then they can start developing from a state of the art foundation immediately, says Martin Unverdorben, Product Manager SMARC at Kontron and SGET SDT.01 Chairman. “ Kontron will release a starter kit based on the SMARC Evaluation Carrier 2.0 in the near future. This will be usable according to the plug-and-play principle and - like its predecessor which was based on the first SMARC specification version - come equipped with all necessary components to facilitate processor evaluation."
