Raspberry Pi has introduced a new addition to its Raspberry Pi 5 family: a 2GB variant priced at $50.

This latest model continues the company’s mission to make high-performance computing accessible to a broad audience. The Raspberry Pi 5, which launched ten months ago, has significantly advanced since the original 2012 model, offering up to 150 times the performance. The 2GB variant is built on a cost-optimised version of the BCM2712 application processor, offering the same powerful features as its predecessors but at a more affordable price.

This new variant maintains the same quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor and multimedia capabilities as the 4 and 8GB versions. However, it strips away unnecessary functions to reduce costs. The result is a high-performing, budget-friendly option that still supports the Raspberry Pi OS, known for its efficient resource usage. While users with more intensive needs might prefer the higher memory models, the new 2GB version offers excellent performance for many use cases.

The introduction of the 2GB variant addresses community requests for a more affordable Raspberry Pi 5, providing an opportunity for users to explore what they can achieve with this powerful yet cost-effective computing platform.
