Gerty tries out the latest Advanced Park Assist
The Vauxhall Corsa can be optioned with Advanced Park Assist, and Vauxhall are promoting it by letting Gerty the Boxer demonstrate it. The advances in systems that make driving easier are coming thick and fast at the moment, and filtering down from ‘Premium’ models to more run of the mill cars.
One technology designed to handle a task many drivers struggle with – parallel parking – is now an option on even entry-level cars, with Park Assist taking the judgement out of the car’s position and handing it to the on-board computer, with the driver able to relax and let the tech do the work.
But a lot of drivers (paradoxically, often the most able drivers) avoid using Park Assist, either because they think they can do a better job, or expect it to screw up and leave them looking daft.
So Vauxhall has decided they need to demonstrate that their Advanced Park Assist – which is now available as an option on the Corsa – is so easy a dog can do it.
Set forward Gerty the Boxer, star of a video from Vauxhall which was shot on Wimbledon High Street and, according to Vauxhall, had no human assistance.
Vauxhall say the video demonstrates how easy ‘Paw-fect’ parking is with the new Park Assist in the Corsa, but we’ll spare you the full ‘quote’ from Gerty telling us we’d be ‘barking’ not to try it out.
Advanced Park Assist is available on the Corsa, costing from £495.
