What is AI's role in unleashing intelligent sensing?
The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is unlocking a wave of new sensor applications and driving market demand for intelligent sensing - the ability to extract insights from sensor data. To guide innovation and investment in this fast-evolving market, the team at Lux Research, took a deep dive into how and where enhanced AI analytics are rapidly improving the capabilities of softwar...
LIDAR to serve future autonomous driving systems
With the future moving toward the commercialisation of autonomous cars, the technologies in this space are quickly advancing. Light detection and ranging (LIDAR), sometimes called laser detection and ranging (LADAR), time of flight (ToF), laser scanners or laser radar, is a sensing method that detects objects and maps their distances.
Automatic labelling to accelerate AI use of time-series data
The development of technology to easily create the training data necessary to apply AI to time-series data, such as those from accelerometers and gyroscopic sensors, has been announced by Fujitsu Laboratories and Kumamoto University. Time-series data obtained from sensors does not include anything other than every-changing numerical data.
The AI industry is suffering from a diversity crisis
When we consider the current challenges facing artificial intelligence (AI) today, one of the more immediate threats to the future of the industry is diversity, or a lack thereof. According to the 2018 Global Gender Gap Report, only 22% of AI professionals globally are female, compared to 78% who are male. Meanwhile, large companies that are at the forefront of developing AI technologies are themselves struggling to improve diversity; AI Now...
Artificial intelligence breakthroughs lead to M&A growth
The latest analysis of the Artificial Intelligence M&A market by Hampleton Partners, has revealed that over 150 deals were disclosed in 2018, up from 105 deals in 2017. The first half of 2019 is also showing impressive AI-related M&A momentum, with 65 deals already recorded and a total of near 100 deals forecast for the half-year only.
Addressing urban planning issues around autonomous vehicles
The Eclipse Foundation has announced the launch of the openMobility Working Group that will focus on open and shared collaboration around one of the major issues in urban planning around autonomous vehicles and future transportation requirements - traffic simulation and modelling.
Mastering the challenge of trustworthy AI
From treating chronic diseases and reducing fatality rates in traffic accidents, to fighting climate change and anticipating cyber security threats, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer considered a futuristic construct - it is already a reality and is helping humanity solve pressing global challenges.
How humanised machine learning is augmenting human intelligence
IDC estimates worldwide data volume is set to rise by 61% between 2018 and 2025 – eventually reaching 175 zettabytes – with much of this generated by businesses. So how can this be harnessed to optimise business processes, improve day-to-day operations and inform decision-making? The answer lies with humanised machine learning platforms, says Mind Foundry Director of Research Nathan Korda, which are making advanced machine learning ca...
AI engine used to design new alloy for 3D printing project
Designing new materials for 3D printing projects is now much simpler, quicker and cost effective thanks to the Alchemite machine learning algorithm, developed by Intellegens, the Cambridge-based AI company. In a research collaboration between several commercial partners and the Stone Group at the University of Cambridge, the Alchemite deep learning algorithm was used to design a new nickel-based alloy for direct laser deposition.
Highly connected, safety conscious Satnav launched
The location technology specialist, TomTom, has announced the launch of the TomTom GO Premium, its most feature-packed, best connected, and smartest navigation device. This new state-of-the-art satnav, built with safety in mind, assists drivers throughout their journey from before they get in the car, through to the last few steps to their destination.
