Kontron's new 5G M.2 module
Kontron introduces its newly developed 5G M.2 module at embedded world 2025. The 5G M.2 broadband modem card delivers high performance and global 5G connectivity, making it ideal for industrial applications.
Beyond industrial use, it is also ready for deployment in railway transportation, and avionics applications.
The 5G M.2 module has been developed for industrial use and supports 5G 3GPP Release 17. It facilitates data transfer rates of up to 4.9Gbps in the downlink and up to 0.55Gbps in the uplink. Ensuring stable connectivity is a 4x4 DL MIMO and 2x2 UL MIMO.
A global SKU allows flexible use in different regions. Additionally, the module features integrated L1+L5 GNSS support for GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, and Galileo. The M.2 form factor (3052 KeyB) facilitates integration into existing systems.
The module is based on the Qualcomm SDX 72-0 platform and offers USB 3.1 Gen 2 and PCIe as data interfaces. Dual SIM interfaces increase flexibility for international deployment.
In line with its commitment to IoT connectivity, Kontron recently cooperated with Qualcomm Technologies on a Snapdragon-based 5G M.2 board. This solution enhances connectivity by enabling seamless 5G integration and providing fast and reliable communication for both internal and external applications.
Hannes Niederhauser, CEO of Kontron AG, explains: "With the new 5G M.2 module, we offer a powerful connectivity solution for industrial applications. The focus is on high speed, global usability, and easy integration."
The 5G M.2 module is developed and manufactured in Berlin, Germany. The production in Europe guarantees the highest quality standards, short supply chains and strengthens technological independence. It facilitates seamless alignment between design and manufacturing, ensuring superior product quality and sustained availability. European manufacturing also ensures compliance with strict security and regulatory requirements, providing customers with a reliable and trusted solution for their critical applications.
First samples will be available from Q1/2025.
