NTT DOCOMO has announced that it has agreed with OMRON Corporation and Nokia Solutions and Networks Oy to collaborate in trials of 5G mobile communication technology inside factories, with the aim of significantly enhancing future manufacturing productivity.

The UK Telecommunications provider BT will be working with Qualitest, the software testing and quality assurance company, who will support the delivery of the backbone to their digital infrastructure, including the further development of their 5G offering

The Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance has today announced that it recommends a common RF cluster connector for early 5G deployment. NGMN’s new white paper, ‘Recommendation for RF Cluster Connector for use in 5G NR 8T8R TDD Deployment’, describes the selection process and explores the features that make a common RF cluster connector the most suitable for early 5G deployment.

Keysight Technologies has joined the 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) to help establish a framework for test and verification that will accelerate deployment of new industrial 5G use cases. 5G technology in industrial applications will support operational efficiency in manufacturing processes, a greater use of process automation and operational autonomy in factories.

Viavi Solutions has announced it is working with Brazil’s national telecommunications agency (Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações, ANATEL) to evaluate and test 5G-suitable spectrum ahead of auctions that will take place in 2020. The planned auction is the biggest in the history of ANATEL and will involve the 700MHz, 2.3, 2.5 and 26GHz frequency bands.

In collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Rohde & Schwarz has successfully verified an A-GPS control-plane LPP test session over 5G NR using a device powered by the Snapdragon X55 5G modem and Qualcomm RF Front-end solutions.

NEC Corporation has announced the provision of radio units (RU) for 5G base station equipment to NTT DOCOMO. NEC began shipping three types of small-cell RU that support the 3.7, 4.5 and 28GHz bands and are compliant with O-RAN fronthaul interface specifications.
