3D packaging increases RPMH in switching regulators
Switching current in the RPMH range of non-isolated switching regulators has been extended from 0.5 to 1.5A, with no size penalties, says Recom.
The RPMH-1.5 series is designed using the company’s 3D Power Packaging which extends the current rating but maintains the compact package of the RPMH range, i.e. 12.19 x 12.19 x 3.75mm.
Recom says its 3D Power Packaging techniques are responsible for the advance in power handling for the RPMH-1.5. The resulting 25-pad LGA package has six-sided shielding for optimal EMC and thermal performance.
The increased current rating opens up a wider range of applications for the switching regulators, explained Recom’s DC/DC product manager, Matthew Dauterive. “The wide input range, up to 60V, will be particularly attractive for 48V systems or applications such as automotive where high voltage surges can occur,” he said.
The high-efficiency parts are available with trimmable outputs at nominal 3.3, 5.0, 12, 15, and 24V. Inputs for each type can range up to 60V DC. The switching regulators can be used in temperatures of up to 100°C with no derating, or higher still at reduced power, reports the company.
In addition to the extended current rating, the regulators have on/off control, remote sensing, a power good signal, and a range of protection features, including output short-circuits, over-current, and over-voltage protection. The regulators meet EN55032 class B EMI limits with a simple external filter.
Evaluation boards are available which allow performance and all features to be tested.
