HÜBERS GmbH is a partner in the German government’s AVEL project, aimed at developing an environmentally sound global innovation for electronic components.

HÜBERS is taking part in the innovative AVEL project to research into and develop a new inorganic material system as a potting compound for electrical machines and power electronics. AVEL is an initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The new potting compound to be devel-oped will initially be used for power electronics and the drive systems of electric vehicles, but can also be transferred to other technologies. It will improve the energy efficiency of the component while minimizing CO2 emissions. It will be the world’s first cementitious potting compound for electronic components.

Insulation systems and potting materials often go unnoticed in the finished component assembly. However, they play an important role in ensuring the reliability and operational readiness of the technology. Their robustness and their properties in terms of insulation, thermal conduction and processing are crucial factors that can determine the performance of the final product.

The new potting compound is based on an inorganic material from the class of cements. It will be able to be poured without bubbles or pores. Its innovative advantage is the combination of significantly increased dielectric strength, thermal conductivity, good insulation and a low coefficient of thermal expansion.

In addition to efficiency in operation, the new potting compound offers potential for material savings through miniaturisation and integration. Compared to the organic polymer-based potting materials used so far, it also offers better recyclability and is more environmentally friendly.

Almost all forms of power generation in the field of energy from renewables require electrical machines and power electronics. Therefore, the technology will be transferable to other types of energy generation such as wind energy, photovoltaics, hydropower, etc., as well as to power plants with electric generators and to other industries. It can also be used for battery chargers, charging stations and any other power electronics, and make a further contribution to climate protection.
