Thunderbolt Power for Host Bus Powered Peripherals and Cables Reference Design
Texas Instruments
The Thunderbolt™ power reference design is intended for consumer applications that combine high-resolution displays and high-speed data transfer connections into a single port. This is an end-to-end power reference design that allows customers to implement single-port or dual-port Thunderbolt system. This reference design features TPS22981, which is an Intel® certified Power Mux for Thunderbolt systems as well as TPS22986 which is an Intel® certified Supply Selection IC for Thunderbolt systems.
Features
- Host board supports dual port applications by using separate Buck Converters for 15V and 3.3V supplies paired up with: Two TPS22981 power muxes (one per port) to independently select the desired output voltage for each port
- Two TPS22981 power muxes (one per port) to independently select the desired output voltage for each port
- Bus powered peripheral board uses Synchronous Buck Converter TPS62150 that supports: Up to 1A output current and Ultra low quiescent current of 17uA in a tiny 3x3mm QFN package
