Nordic adds to power management IC family

Nordic Semiconductor has added to its nPM family of Power Management ICs (PMICs). The nPM2100 PMIC prolongs the operating time per battery for primary (non-rechargeable) battery applications by managing energy resources using an ultra-efficient boost regulator and a wide range of energy-saving features. This PMIC is suited for applications such as include wireless mice and keyboards, consumer asset tracking, remote controls, and body-worn medical devices.

According to figures from CORDIS, 28 billion primary batteries are discarded worldwide each year and manufacturing a primary battery requires, on average, 50 times the energy it stores, making it an extremely inefficient energy source. Worse yet, inefficient power management wastes a substantial part of the stored energy, resulting in many batteries being thrown away before they are fully depleted. (Read more.)

Würth Elektronik expands its MagI³C power module series

With MagI³C-VDLM, Würth Elektronik presents three power modules in the LGA-12EP package for the 24 V industrial power bus.

The modules are characterised by high resilience to voltage transients on the 24 V bus and an extremely wide input-voltage range from 3.5 V to 38 V. The module, measuring just 10 × 6 × 3.1 mm, is available with an output current of 1, 2, or 3 A. (Read more.)

Nexperia’s DC/DC converters offer low quiescent current

Nexperia has introduced a new series of step-down DC/DC converters featuring devices with outstanding stand-by and operating efficiency that offer engineers even greater flexibility for designing various fixed and portable battery-powered applications across consumer, industrial, and automotive end-markets.

The NEX30606 is a high-efficiency, high-accuracy step-down converter that offers a choice of 16 resistor-settable output voltages from input voltages ranging from 1.8V to 5.0V. It can deliver up to 600mA of output current and offers the industry’s lowest operating quiescent current (Iq) of 220nA. This feature makes it ideal for wearable consumer applications like hearing aids, medical sensors, patches, and monitors in addition to battery-powered industrial applications like smart meters, asset-tracking, and industrial (IIOT) and narrow-band internet-of-things (NBIOT) devices. STMicroelectronics’ VIPower full bridge with real-time diagnostics

STMicroelectronics’ VNH9030AQ integrated full-bridge DC motor driver handles diverse automotive uses including functional-safety applications.

As well as integrating advanced diagnostics, the driver has a dedicated pin for real-time output status that saves external circuitry and slims the bill of materials. With RDS(on) of 30mΩ per leg, the VNH9030AQ efficiently handles mid- and low-power DC-motor driven applications such as door-control modules, washer pumps, powered lift gates, powered trunks, and seat adjusters. AOS launches 16-phase controller

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor (AOS) recently launched its AOZ73016QI, a 16-Phase, 2-rail controller specifically designed to the latest OpenVReg16 (OVR16) specifications from NVIDIA.

The AOZ73016QI controller design is based on the company’s high performance, proprietary AOS Advanced Transient Modulator (A2TM) control scheme. In addition to supporting all the basic requirements of the OVR16 specification, the new AOS controller offers value-added features such as RDS(on) and DCR sensing for current monitoring and current balance. These features enable AOS’ controller to support both DrMOS and Smart Power Stages (SPS) to deliver a complete AI server and graphic card power solution along with increased design flexibility.
