It has been announced by Qoitech and Ercogener, that its EG-IoT range of IoT devices has been tested by Orange over the LTE-M (Cat M1) cellular network technology, with Qoitech’s Otii solution validating its energy saving potential.

This easy to deploy technology from three partners, which allows low energy consumption, will be demoed throughout IoT Solutions World Congress (Barcelona, 16th to 18th October 2018) at Orange’s booth (E511).

Qoitech’s engineers together with Ercogener´s engineers will be available on the Orange booth to demonstrate the difference of energy required by the 3G and LTE-M EG-IoT. Specifically, visitors will see how connecting through LTE-M with a Category M1 device is more efficient and requires significantly less energy than connecting over a 3G network.

The availability of LTE-M services will enable new applications, such as worldwide asset tracking, remote monitoring, and control with secure and reliable operation. By demonstrating that LTE-M with Cat M1 is more than twice as efficient as 3G using EG-IoT modules, it will allow these devices to operate without maintenance and battery change for longer. The energy profile of any IoT device can easily be verified in a development environment and in the field using the Otii solution. The combination of the Orange network, Ercogener’s advanced connectivity technology and the Otii solution gives OEMs easy access to powerful tools for building out the IoT.

Ludovic de Nicolay, Sales and Marketing Director at Ercogener, stated: “The EG-IoT modules are rugged, waterproof and shock-resistant, making them ideal for external environments. As they operate over both cellular and LPWAN networks it is the ideal way to show the energy savings customers can achieve using our technology.”

The coverage, bandwidth and low latency that LTE Cat M1 will bring to the Massive IoT (MIoT) will drive demand for autonomous, intelligent devices that can be deployed and left to operate without maintenance for many years. Using Otii, developers can accurately profile the energy used to connect over different networks, using various radios, and choose the solution that best meets their application’s needs.

Vanja Samuelsson, Founder of Qoitech, added: “Working so closely with Orange and Ercogener has shown us how important and useful accurate energy profiling is in the Massive IoT. The Otii solution gives developers at every point in the stack the ability to verify energy consumption in a ‘real world’ environment, enabling faster and more agile product development.”

The demonstration, showing the Otii solution, will be available on the Orange booth throughout IoT Solutions World Congress for visitors to analyse. Qoitech’s and Ercogener’s engineers will also be available to explain the full benefits of energy profiling and how the Otii solution can accelerate product development in the IoT based on EG-IoT devices.
