RS485 driver transmits high data rates over long distances
An isolated RS485 driver DC/DC from Murata Power Solutions is now in stock at Mouser Electronics. Engineered for bi-directional data communication or multi-point bus transmission, the low-power, electrically isolated TTL data transmission device powers system circuitry through its three power options — an unregulated 6V supply, a -6V isolated supply, or a regulated 5V supply — which can eliminate the need for external components and supply all the functions on both sides of the isolation boundary.
The Murata NM485D6S5MC isolated RS485 driver is an EIA-485-compatible differential communications interface that enables data transmission at high rates over long distances.
The built-in tri-state differential line driver and differential input line receiver both have active high and active low enable pins, allowing the device to be connected together to function as a direct control.
This means the device can receive when the receiver enable pin is low and transmit when the driver enable pin is high.
As the driver is active high, to reduce the power dissipation even further, designers can simply disable the driver when it is not transmitting data.
The driver provides a 500 kbps data rate and has been tested at 3000 VACRMS Hi Pot Test. The device features current limiting and thermal shutdown as well as short circuit protection at ambient temperatures down to minus 40 degrees Celsius.
The SMD/SMT driver complies with ANSI TIA/EIA RS-485-A-1998 and ISO 8482: 1987(E) specifications, and offers a compact, low-power solution for a wide range of half-duplex and full-duplex RS-485 computer and industrial serial interfacing and network configuration applications.
