A smart battery charger that can automatically detect and charge 8 to 15 NiMH or NiCD cells is announced by Powersolve. The PSCH30 Smart Charger is “clever” enough to identify the number of cells in series and provide the necessary output to fully charge the cells and then turn itself off.
Output voltage, which varies depending on load, is from 9.6 to 18V and output current is from 500mA to 1.8A which can be switched to charge at 0.9 or 1.8A. Safety ground leakage current is <0.5mA. The charger features battery temperature monitor with over temperature shutdown. Overvoltage and short circuit protection are standard as is protection against reverse polarity. An LED status indicator confirms standby, charging, fully charged and error states.

The PSCH30 features a universal AC input and incorporates an IEC320 C14 3 pin AC input connector. Powersolve can supply a variety of optional DC output connectors to suit specific needs.

Housed in a compact desk top plastic enclosure measuring 120 x 60 x 38mm, the PSCH30 has an operating temperature range of 0 to 40°C. It also complies with all relevant international safety standards as well as EMC compliance to EN55022 ’B’, CISPR 22 ‘B’ and FCC Part 15 ’B’.
