Nexperia has unveiled an expansion of its range of power bipolar junction transistors (BJTs), introducing ten standard and ten automotive-qualified products housed in DFN2020D-3 packaging.

These new additions, available with voltage ratings of 50 V and 80 V and supporting current capacities from 1 A to 3 A in both NPN and PNP polarities, reinforce Nexperia's position. With this launch, Nexperia now offers most of its power BJTs in DFN packaging, providing designers with a more space- and energy-efficient alternative to the older SOT223 and SOT89 packages.

The DFN2020D-3 package offers substantial board space savings compared to traditional leaded packages. For instance, it reduces board space by 80% compared to SOT89 and by 90% compared to SOT223. Additionally, the DFN2020D-3 package is equipped with side-wettable flanks, which allow for automated optical inspection (AOI) of solder joints, thereby enhancing robustness and reliability.

Alongside general-purpose transistors, Nexperia has also introduced a series of low VCEsat devices, such as the PBS5350PAS-Q. These devices feature an exceptionally low saturation voltage combined with high current gain, making them ideal for improving energy efficiency in various power supply applications. Due to their superior performance, low VCEsat transistors can replace standard transistors in larger packages, allowing for more compact designs on smaller PCBs.

To support engineers working with bipolar junction transistors, Nexperia offers the BJT Application Handbook. This comprehensive, practical, and up-to-date reference, written by engineers for engineers, provides valuable insights into bipolar transistor fundamentals, thermal management, and application strategies.
