New AMD processor family for demanding performance requirements

At SPS 2023, AMD unveiled the Ryzen Embedded 7000 Series processor family. Specifically designed to meet the demanding performance requirements of industrial markets, this new processor family brings together the ‘Zen 4’ architecture with integrated Radeon graphics. Electronic Specifier’s Paige West attended a webinar to learn more about the new family.

The Ryzen Embedded 7000 Series is designed for a diverse range of embedded applications, including industrial automation, machine vision, robotics, and Edge servers, thanks to its expanded features and integration capabilities.

The processor is the to employ next-generation 5nm technology, backed by a commitment to a 7-year manufacturing availability. It integrates AMD Radeon RDNA 2 graphics, eliminating the need for a separate GPU in industrial applications. Additionally, recognising the diverse requirements of embedded applications, the Ryzen Embedded 7000 Series processors support a range of operating systems, including Windows Server and Linux Ubuntu, in addition to Windows 10 and Windows 11. These processors also feature up to 12 high-performance CPU cores, which, combined with its comprehensive integrated features and broad operating system support, significantly eases system integration for designers.

Rajneesh Gaur, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Embedded Processors Group at AMD, stated: “Industrial application use cases are continuing to grow in complexity and sophistication and are driving the need for increased processing capabilities.
