Maxwell is currently supplying production level quantities of BOOSTCAP ultracapacitor cells ranging from 10 to 25 farads for SSD power loss protection. Each SSD incorporates several cells, and customer projections indicate that demand could reach millions of cells in 2010.

Ultracapacitors provide an independent, instantly available, source of backup power to ensure that no data is lost in the event of a main power system failure, and with their durability and long operational life they should never need to be serviced or replaced, said David Schramm, Maxwell's CEO and president. The compact, prismatic form factor of our BOOSTCAP PC10 product even enables some SSD producers to integrate a 'mini-UPS' system into their drives without modifying the form factor.
