High stability HV benchtop power supply launched by Applied Kilovolts
The latest high voltage power supply from Applied Kilovolts is a benchtop model providing a highly stable output of up to 30 kV. The Alpha IV from the company's Brandenburg division produces an extremely low ripple of less than 100 ppm, with output currents of up to 10 mAApplications for the Alpha IV are expected to be in the research and development of analytical instruments in fields such as mass spectroscopy, surface science, x-ray imaging and insulation testing of cables and components.
DrifDrift is also very low, at typically less than 10 ppm over a one hour period after a one hour warm up, and 200 ppm over an eight hour period after warm up. The temperature coefficient is less than 25 ppm per deg C.
Applications for the Alpha IV are expected to be in the research and development of analytical instruments in fields such as mass spectroscopy, surface science, x-ray imaging and insulation testing of cables and components.
An advanced feature of the 100 W output unit is that its polarity is switchable electronically via a digital interface, as are all the other control functions.
When in Limit mode, the power supply operates in constant voltage or constant current mode, depending on the load, with automatic crossover from one mode to the other. When in Trip mode, the power supply will trip once the set level is reached.
For more demanding applications an advanced variant of the Alpha IV is available which has an even lower sensitivity to temperature changes, with a temperature coefficient of less than 10 pmm per deg C.
The 2U high, 19 rack mountable unit is part of Applied Kilovolts' new HV-Lab(TM) suite of products, which also includes the 149 digital high voltage meter and the 477 series bench photomultiplier power supplies.
