Fairchild offers designers of telecom, graphic cards and consumer electronics a single supply, highly integrated 6A synchronous Buck solution that enables designers to reach higher levels of efficiency in less space. The FAN21SV06 incorporates a controller, driver and optimized power MOSFETs in a compact 5mm x 6mm MLP footprint.
This small package offers over 40 percent space savings compared to a discrete implementation. The TinyBuck device is also more energy efficient, providing up to 95 percent efficiency compared to alternate solutions. To accommodate the needs of a wide variety of non-isolated DC-DC designs, the FAN21SV06 offers a broad input operating range from 6.5V to 24V.

This Buck regulator features a pre-bias startup to regulate the output cap discharge during soft-start conditions, protecting the system ICs from damage. It offers a suite of protection features including soft start, under voltage lockout (UVLO), thermal shutdown, over voltage and over current protection to protect the system from fault conditions.

The FAN21SV06 also has a sync pin allowing synchronization to an external clock, which reduces input ripple in the system and decreases the costs of the input capacitors. This sync pin enables the system to operate more than one FAN21SV06 in a master/slave configuration and minimizes EMI-related issues.

These TinyBuck regulators are part of a comprehensive family of integrated Buck regulators. This family includes the FAN2103, FAN2106, and FAN2108, that offers high efficiency for graphic cards, set-top boxes, servers and point of load (POL) applications. In addition, the FAN2106, a 6A version, won the prestigious 2007 EDN China Innovation award. It also won the 2007 Electronic Design and Application World- Nikkei Electronics China (EDAW-NEC) award for the most innovative DC-DC converter product.
