Energy Star offering extended to include medical and commercial external units from 6 to 70W
SL Power Electronics Corp has announced extensions to its Ault family of external switch-mode power supplies designed to meet the requirements set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR Program. The product family now extends from 6 to 70W with outputs from 5 to 48VDC. Designed to meet the needs of the medical systems industry as well as applications in communications, industrial, computer/computer peripherals and test and measurement, SL Power’s external power supplies are available as desk-top and wall mount options with some models supplied with interchangeable plug styles for use throughout the World.
As an Energy Star partner, SL Power Electronics Corporation launched the specification for Energy Star-qualified external power adapters in January 2005 to address the growing energy consumption by a proliferation of consumer and office electronic products requiring power adapters.
All models meet the Energy Star criteria for standby losses – for units rated to 10W, no load power levels should not exceed 0.5W and, for those between 10 and 250W, the figure is a little higher at 0.75W.
The Ault PW174 series features a power range of 40 to 70W, available with voltage levels between 12 and 24V.
“The Ault PW174 fits a popular power range for a broad spectrum of ITE applications in the communications, networking, industrial, instrumentation and computer peripheral market segments,” said Nigel Davies, Managing Director, Europe, SL Power Electronics Ltd. “Although the applications in these segments are different, all require one thing — a highly reliable power supply that meets global standards and energy requirements — which OEMs can find in the Ault PW174.”
The CE-compliant Ault PW174 meets UL60950-1, IEC/EN60950-1 and EN55022 /55024 61000 to help reduce OEM product design-to-production cycle time. In addition, the efficiency level meets Energy Star and EU COC guidelines.
The 18W MW172 series is available in desktop or wall plug-in styles with output voltage models in 3, 5, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 24V and is a low-cost option for leading medical device OEMs.
As a wall plug-in, the MW172 is designed with interchangeable blades – available for North American, European, United Kingdom and Australian markets.
“The Ault MW172 provides design engineers a logical alternative to conventional and larger linear power supplies. The MW172 is in a popular power range for linear power supplies and offers greater versatility due to its wide range, good value and smaller size,” said Nigel Davies. “Now medical OEMs can replace a host of linear power supplies with a single switch-mode unit that they can use worldwide to power their medical devices.”
SL Power Electronics anticipates that the Ault MW172 will prove popular for powering MRI LCD displays, life care patient monitors, home care diagnostic systems, and other portable health care devices.
In addition to a very wide range of standard products, SL Power Electronics produces more than 60% of its products with customer specific non-standard voltages to meet specific OEM requirements and private label marking needs.
