Chargeasap’s Omega GaN USB-C Charger smashes funding goal
Sydney based consumer electronics brand, Chargeasap, known for its successful crowdfunding campaigns including Flash Graphene Powerbank, Infinity Magnetic cables and X-Connect cables is celebrating reaching its crowdfunding goal for its Omega GaN chargers on Kickstarter with over $600,000 raised of its $10,000 goal with 46 days still remaining.
Capable of charging four devices at the same time (200W), the rewards for Omega 100W start at $45/£36 and Omega 200W at $75/£60. Full RRP will be $99/£79 (100W) and $149/£118 (200W) with the device available in, black, white, navy & gold (200W only). The 60 day campaign will run until 10th October with shipping expected to start January 2020.
Chargeasap have partnered with Navitas Semiconductor. The Omega chargers utilise the Navitas GaNFast NV6127 Power IC which miniaturise silicon components found in traditional chargers. Gallium Nitride (GaN) is a semiconductor material that replaces traditional silicon-based power adapters allowing higher efficiency, less heat and the ability to handle a higher current. GaN IC’s are smaller than traditional IC’s.
The Omega Charger is a 2nd generation GaN Charger aiming to solve issues found commonly in 1st generation GaN chargers including overheating and the lack of accurate intelligent power distribution. By not limiting the USB-C port when the USB-A port is used, it is easy to confuse the charger which is why many competitor brand users have experienced many issues with their charger not working to their expectations.
The Omega 200W and 100W chargers are the smallest chargers available on the market (66% smaller than traditional chargers) and the world’s first portable 200W charger to quick charge a laptop (MacBook Pro), a tablet (iPad Pro), smartphone (iPhone), and mobile device (AirPods, Watch) all at the same time.
With the number of electrical devices people currently use on the go rising, travel space is crucial as consumers demand smaller, more portable gadgets and ways of keeping them charged for the ‘working on the go’ culture.
The Omega 200W includes Chargeasap’s patent-pending two-way foldable prongs, helping to cut down on clutter and cords which can be adjusted at a 90° or 180° angle, allowing users to fit the Omega charger into any tough to fit wall plug whether floor or wall. The Omega is so small, at just 88x55x42mm for 200W version and 60x55x26mm for the 100W version, it’s smaller than a deck of playing cards.
With two 100W Dual USB-C Power Delivery 3.0, a single Omega 200W charger can power two laptops (16" MacBook Pro) simultaneously, and at full speed. The charger can output 200W. The Omega Charger USB-A ports are compatible with a wide range of devices that support Quick Charge 3.0, AFC, VOOC, SCP, FCP almost all major fast charging protocols in the market from all major brands including Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus up to 22.5W.
Chargeasap have aimed to ensure that Omega delivers performance in a pocket-sized charger. The dense circuit board is surrounded by high-density thin heat sinks to aid in heat dissipation and an graphene ribbon sheet that is strategically wrapped around the major charger components to further aid in cooling. The charger is then wrapped in a minimalist fire-resistant polycarbonate enclosure to complete the efficient design.
The Omega supports 100 to 240V worldwide universal voltage and comes with three plug converters (AU/EU/UK) so that it can be used it in 200+ countries worldwide.
