TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments) has replaced its top-selling EX354T 300W triple-output laboratory power supply with a new model that incorporates a fully variable auxiliary output. The new EX354Tv is a mixed-mode regulated power supply with dual outputs of 0 to 35 V at 0 to 4 A. The third output is now continuously variable between 1.5 and 5.0 V at currents of up to 5 A, replacing the fixed 3.3 V/5 V auxiliary output of its predecessor.
A 'push to measure' button allows the right-hand display to show the settings for the auxiliary output, enabling the voltage to be set accurately without the need for an external meter.

The new model is also fitted with TTi's new safety binding post terminals. These can accept fixed-shroud 4 mm plugs, as required by some organisations on safety grounds, whilst retaining the flexibility to accept fork connectors or bare wires.

The mixed-mode regulation used on the EX series of power supplies involves power-factor corrected switch-mode pre-regulation followed by a linear final regulator. This system achieves much better output noise and transient response figures than those of conventional switch-mode regulated units.

Despite its high total power, which is in excess of 300 W, the EX354Tv uses fan-free silent convection cooling and is highly compact, measuring only 290 x 160 x 195 mm (W x H x D).

The new model reflects the increasing use of low-voltage circuitry and the move away from standard operating voltages in most areas of electronics.

The price of the EX354Tv remains at £438, unchanged from that of the model that it replaces.
