The MAX25530 four-channel automotive backlight driver from Maxim Integrated Products is now being shipped by distributor Mouser Electronics.

The MAX25530 integrates four I²C-controlled, 150 mA LED backlight drivers and a four-output thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display (TFT-LCD) bias in a single 40-pin, 6 mm × 6 mm chip to help engineers reduce the design footprint of automotive dashboards, central information, and navigation displays.

The driver integrates one positive boost converter, one negative boost converter, two charge pump drivers for powering up TFT bias, and a boost/SEPIC controller for powering up to four strings of LEDs in the display backlight.

For bigger and higher-resolution displays, TFT bias and LED driver are needed.

The MAX25530 supports larger screen sizes and higher resolution by providing positive analogue supply voltage and negative analogue supply voltage, both of which are required for low-temperature polysilicon panels (LTPS) that deliver higher resolution and lower cost than amorphous silicon panels now currently in use.

For design support, Mouser also offers the MAX25530 evaluation kit, a fully assembled and tested surface-mount PCB, that provides a complete power-management solution for automotive displays.

It can be configured to operate in a standalone mode or in an I²C mode, providing an I²C interface that can operate in conjunction with the MINIQUSB+ adapter board, or a third-party I²C master.

Also included is Windows-compatible software that provides a simple graphical user interface (GUI) for exercising the features of the MAX25530 IC.
