30V power MOSFET supplied in 3x3mm PowerPAIR package
Saving space and simplifying the design of highly efficient synchronous buck converters, the Vishay SiZ340DT combines a high-side and low-side MOSFET in a compact 3x3mm PowerPAIR package. Compared to previous generation devices in this package size, the 30V asymmetric dual TrenchFET power MOSFET offers 57% lower on-resistance, 5% higher efficiency, and up to 25% higher power density.
The SiZ340DT is suitable for synchronous buck designs in "cloud computing" infrastructures, servers, telecommunication equipment, and various client-side electronic devices and mobile computing applications. End-applications include stem auxiliary power rails in servers, computers, notebook computers, graphic cards, gaming consoles, storage arrays, telecom equipment, DC/DC bricks, and POL converters. Additionally the MOSFET can be used in DC/DC conversion circuitry that supplies power to FPGAs.
It uses a very high-density design which reduces on-resistance without significantly increasing the gate charge. This minimises conduction losses and reduces total power loss for higher power output: the low-side Channel 2 MOSFET offers a low on-resistance of 5.1mΩ at a 10V gate drive and 7.0mΩ at 4.5V; while the high-side Channel 1 MOSFET features on-resistance of 9.5mΩ at 10V and 13.7mΩ at 4.5V. With low gate charges of 5.6nC (Channel 1 MOSFET) and 10.1nC (Channel 2 MOSFET), the resulting low on-resistance times gate charge reduces conduction and switching losses to improve total system efficiency. This increased efficiency allows the SiZ340DT to provide increased power density, or run 30% cooler than previous-generation devices at the same output load.
In typical DC/DC topologies (which have 10-15A output current and an output voltage of less than 2V), the SiZ340DT saves up to 77% PCB space compared with using discrete solutions, such as a PowerPAK 1212-8 MOSFET for the high-side and a PowerPAK SO-8 for the low side. The MOSFET allows higher switching frequencies beyond 450kHz to shrink the PCB size, without sacrificing efficiency. This reduces switching losses and enables the use of smaller inductors and capacitors. Additionally, the MOSFET can potentially reduce the overall component count and simplify designs by offering higher performance than multiple previous-generation devices running in parallel.
100% Rg- and UIS-tested, the SiZ340DT is halogen-free and RoHS compliant. With lead times of 14 to 16 weeks for large orders, samples and production quantities are available now.
