30% more run-time with new CR123A battery
Ultralife Corporation has released the XR123A, a battery in the CR123A form-factor for low to medium rate applications that require a long service life.
This compact and lightweight power source is ideal for use in smoke alarms, LED flashlights, digital cameras and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors.
The XR123A is a primary (non-rechargeable) cell with a voltage range from 1.5V to 3.3V. With a typical capacity of 2,000mAh, its run-time is around 30 per cent greater than other CR123A batteries on the market. It also boasts a wide operating temperature range from -20 degrees Celsius to +60 degrees Celsius. Other specifications include an energy rating of 6.0Wh and low weight of just 16 grams. Like Ultralife’s existing battery range, the XR123A is manufactured under ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 standards.
“Due to improvements in electronics, device manufacturers can switch to lower voltage and more compact batteries like 3-volt CR123A-size cells”, explained Eric Lind, vice-president at Ultralife. “Most battery companies only have a single CR123A offering, which leads to device manufacturers designing around a single option. This means that the resulting portable device could be powered by a battery that is not optimized for the specific application.”

This started with our UB123A – a cell that is optimized for high-rate applications where a high pulse discharge is required (such as automated external defibrillators) – and now includes the XR123A for applications that do not require such bursts of energy but benefit from a longer service life.”
