Designed to withstand ESD pulses of 8000V, save PCB space and increase pick-and-place speed for assembly lines, 500mW Zener diodes in the ultra-compact MicroSMF eSMP series package have been released by Vishay Intertechnology. The PLZ series combine tight voltage tolerances with low leakage current and high stability.

In a symmetrical class SOD-323 flat lead package, the devices have voltage tolerances of ±2.5%. When compared with diodes in similar plastic or glass SMD packages, the PLZ series saves significant PCB space, with a profile of less than 0.6mm. The Zener diodes are suitable for voltage stabilisation and reference voltage generation in power supplies and LED lighting.

To provide high performance, ruggedness and reliability, the devices feature a planar structure. The PLZ series provide a MSL of 1 per J-STD-020 and LF maximum peak of +260°C. The Zener diodes, which meet the JESD 201 Class 2 whisker test, are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free and Vishay Green Ideal for automated placement. Allowing for AOI systems, the devices support wave and reflow soldering.

The PLZ series are available in sample quantities now and will be available in production quantities in Q4 2014.
