Specialist EMS manufacturer HCD celebrates 15 years of rapid growth - New contract wins mean full order book into 2012
HCD, the Letchworth-based contract electronics manufacturer, is celebrating 15 successful years of trading this year. Founded as an expert PCB design house in 1996, the company has expanded by careful planning and investment and boasts an astonishing year-on-year growth of over 30%. Now one of the UK’s leading specialist EMS manufacturers, HCD offers not only PCB design, but also fast turnaround bare board manufacture, component procurement, assembly, BGA inspection and rework, cable assemblies and box build.
Specialising in fast turn-around, flexible production, HCD ensures high-quality products through a policy of continuous investment in new equipment and employing only highly-skilled professional PCB designers and production engineers. A significant milestone was its decision to move into assembly in 2001, building one-off prototypes. The company structured itself to respond to the market’s requirement for fast turnaround, no minimum order quantity production, recognising that many established CEMs are set up to provide mid and high-volume orders. HCD were very successful at serving the gap in the market for the design engineer needing a one-off board quickly in order to demonstrate a prototype. However, the number of units that some clients began ordering increased significantly from 10s to over 500. Recognising the need to develop with its customers and meet their volume requirements, HCD expanded once again and added a new, separate volume production line to its capabilities in July 2010, investing in new pick-and-place and AOI equipment to speed work flow without compromising quality.
