New cellular mounter increases capacity and productivity; reduces space requirements
Sony Manufacturing Systems Europe has announced a new generation of its successful range of high-speed cellular component mounters, providing dramatically increased placement speed and accuracy, combined with small size and cost-effective operation.
The new SI-G200 compact high-speed mounter achieves tact times as low as 0.08s, equivalent to a sustained placement rate of 45,000 components per hour (CPH), some 70% higher than previous generation solutions. Sony’s unique 12-nozzle “planetary” head, combined with high-speed “flying” parts recognition via CCD, offers placement accuracy as high as ±40µm.With a small overall footprint and width of just 1.2m, the SI-G200 produces maximum return-on-investment (ROI) within valuable production space, achieving component placement rates per square metre of up to 20,000 CPH/m2. Its compact design is complemented by extremely high energy efficiency, which cuts running expenses and enables Sony to offer market-leading levels of energy costs when placing large numbers of components.
“ROI calculations must take many factors into consideration, including actual electricity consumption, air, speed, actual head optimisation and main body/cassette feeder price, but cost per shot in your manufacturing space, if you evaluate our G200, we can prove our mounter will win out over any competition,” said Daniel Lane, Divisional Director Sales at Sony Manufacturing Systems Europe. “Whether you measure price-per-shot, or productivity in terms of manufacturing space or time taken, our cellular mounters produce superior ROI. Thanks to the small footprint a freight elevator is sufficient to lift the G200 to another floor – you won’t even need a crane for this. And our ability to offer a wide range of finance options means that customers can access the latest technology, whilst maintaining good control of their capital expenditure.”
Whether you need high-speed head or a multifunction head, the Sony SI-G200 fulfils a wide range of production line requirements – from high-speed line to multifunction line. The compact “cellular” design builds on Sony’s approach of providing smaller mounters to make more productive use of factory floor space, to create production lines that are flexible and expandable and thus improve cost-performance figures.
Multiple SI-G200s can be connected in-line to meet production and throughput demands: a typical 160,000 CPH line can be constructed from four G-Series mounters, reducing linear space requirements by 50% and capital expenditure by around 15%. Cassette loading is from both front and rear, and transport direction can be right-to-left or left-to-right/front, further increasing flexibility.
