Molex showcases new SolarSpec products at EU PV SEC 2011
At this year’s EU PV SEC, Molex is introducing its new SolarSpec smart Junction Box making it easy for manufacturers of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to provide their products with module-embedded safety and monitoring functions, as well as convenient, safe and dependable connection facilities.
“The Molex SolarSpec range addresses the unique requirements of solar applications through the use of proven technology, solar-compliant materials and unmatched reliability in rugged and extreme environments,” says Peter Commane, product manager, Molex. The Smart Junction Box system is based on the original two-part Molex SolarSpec™ junction box featuring a base attached directly to the solar PV panel and a removable cover assembly. The smart box features a series of interchangeable covers embedded with SolarEdge™ optimising chipset to provide varying levels of electronic integration. Functionalities of the smart box will include system safety, shut-off and arc detection, security monitoring and theft protection, performance tracking on output levels and panel efficiencies, remote diagnostics and power optimisation.
The unique modular concept allows for maximum flexibility and easy upgrade of the PV-panel functionality since the electronic PCB always resides in the removable cover. This smart modular system not only facilitates lean manufacturing processes on either a manual or automated assembly line, it also ensures easy access to key components should repair or replacement ever be required.
The SolarSpec range includes Junction Boxes for silicon photovoltaic panels, DC connectors for direct connection to junction boxes, field installations and PV grid wiring and complementary cabling assemblies. Other Molex connector and cabling products are used in solar applications such a PV-tracking systems and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) fields. For inverter applications, Molex offers custom interconnect products as well as a wide range of standard, off-the-shelf products. Molex is also a global leader in custom user interfaces, membrane and capacitive switches and flex circuits.
Throughout the exhibition, experts from Molex will be on the stand (Hall B7/Stand A14) to demonstrate the new products and to give advice on the benefits that Molex’s SolarSpec technology can provide to solar applications.
