Analog Devices, Inc. today announced two new intermediate frequency (IF) gain block amplifiers. The ADL5535 and ADL5536 gain block amplifiers provide the highest dynamic range available from internally matched IF gain blocks by combining best-in-class linearity and noise figure performance. These versatile, multi-purpose broadband IF amplifiers cover the 20 to 1000 MHz frequency range and are suitable for a variety of applications that require high performance specifications such as in cellular, satellite, CATV, military and instrumentation equipment.

The ADL5535 and ADL5536 IF gain block amplifiers provide extremely low noise figures and very high OIP3 specifications simultaneously across the entire 1 GHz frequency range. The ADL5535 gain block amplifier provides an extremely flat gain of 15 dB over frequency, noise figure of 3.3 dB, a P1dB of 19.1 dBm and an output third order intercept point (OIP3) of 47.6 dBm at 190 MHz. The ADL5536 gain block amplifier provides a flat gain of 20 dB over frequency, noise figure of 2.8 dB, P1dB of 19.8 dBm and an OIP3 of 46.5 dBm at 380 MHz. Both amplifiers are internally matched to 50 Ω at the input and output, making these amplifiers easy to implement in a wide variety of applications. Only input/output ac coupling capacitors, power supply decoupling capacitors, and an external inductor are required for operation. The ADL5535 and ADL5536 IF gain block amplifiers are stable over temperature, power supply and from device to device. They are fabricated on a GaAs HBT process and have a robust ESD rating of ±1 kV (Class 1C). These IF amplifiers are assembled in a MSL-1 rated SOT-89 package, making them easy to drop-in into existing designs for evaluation. The ADL5535 consumes only 97 mA and the ADL5536 consumes only 100 mA on a single 5 V supply and are fully specified for operation from −40°C to +85°C.
