Inductor removes the need for separate board level shielding

An automotive-grade low-profile, high-current inductor, featuring an integrated e-shield for the reduction of EMI in a compact 4040 case size, has been released by Vishay Intertechnology. By removing the need for separate board level shielding for the inductor, the IHLE-4040DC-5A lowers costs and saves board space in automotive and other applications.

The inductor contains the electric field associated with EMI in a tin plated copper integrated shield, providing up to -20dB of electric field reduction at 1cm (above the centre of the inductor) when the integrated shield is connected to ground. In addition, the four-terminal connection (two ground connection points for the shield) provides extra vibration performance for on engine, and chassis mounted electronic circuits.

Featuring high-temperature operation to +155°C and coplanarity of its four terminals of less than or equal to 100µm, the AEC-Q200-qualified device is optimised for energy storage in DC/DC converters and high-current filtering for automotive engine and transmission control units, diesel injection drivers, noise suppression for motors, windshield wipers, power mirrors and seats and HID lighting.

Built on Vishay's IHLP technology, the IHLE-4040DC-5A features high efficiency with max DCR from 1.66 to 178mΩ and a wide range of inductance values from 0.47 to 47µH. The device provides rated currents to 30A and handles high transient current spikes without saturation. Packaged in an RoHS-compliant, 100% lead-free shielded construction, the inductor offers high resistance to thermal shock, moisture, mechanical shock and vibration.

Sample and production quantities of the IHLE-4040DC-5A are available now, with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks for large orders.
