Ceramic resistor division launched at electronica
Two years ago at electronica, Ohmite launched their first ceramic heatsink and a prototype resistor using the same material, this year they will have a complete range to talk to customers about following this week’s acquisition of the electronic components business of Kanthal, a part of Sandvik Group.
Based in Amherst, New York, Kanthal provides a full line of ceramic, non-inductive resistors as well as Maxcap double layer capacitors. (B6-101).
Kanthal’s Globar ceramic resistor products will be combined with Ohmite’s existing A Series and OX/OY Series product lines to form the new Ohmite Ceramic Resistor Division. The new products will be available on a direct basis from Ohmite as well as through Ohmite’s worldwide distribution network.
The purchase further enhances Ohmite’s position as a leading global power resistor manufacturer with this strategic acquisition and now provides a complete product offering across the three leading solutions platforms including ceramic / composition, thick film, and wirewound construction. Ohmite and its affiliate ARCOL, based in Cornwall, UK, now manufacture and supply a wide spectrum of resistive and thermal solutions including wirewound ,thick film, ceramic and composition, thin film and thermal management components.
“We are excited to have the Kanthal Globar resistor products join the greater Ohmite and ARCOL family,” said Director of Sales, Kurt Devlin. “This acquisition rounds out our total solutions offering which is unique in the global resistor market.”
EMEA & APAC Sales Director, Darrel Oliver added: “The added capability of manufacturing ceramic and composition resistors will allow us to provide better support to our design community, and we look forward to continuing to develop outstanding component solutions for our customers.”
